Reflecting on the existence of the universe, the origins of life, and why life became conscious is something most people do now and then—some more than others, and perhaps especially when young.
My own exploration began early as well. Over the years I found myself drawn to the 'hard problem' and moved through psychology, neuroscience, quantum theory, and philosophy. Eastern traditions played a significant role for a time, and more recently, I’ve been spending time with Neoplatonism.
Lately, I’ve been looking more closely at the pragmatic-materialist view of consciousness, which aligns well with the idea of the brain as a prediction machine. It offers a clear framework for understanding perception and agency without overstating what we can know.
Well written, Erik!
Enjoyed this piece a lot Erik!
